Alfredo sauce is a creamy white sauce made with butter, flour, milk, and Parmesan cheese. It is named after Alfredo di Lelio, who created the dish in 1914 at his restaurant in Rome, Italy.

Alfredo sauce became popular in the United States in the 1940s, when Hollywood celebrities such as Fred Astaire and Cary Grant were photographed eating it at Romanoff's restaurant in Los Angeles. The sauce was also featured in the 1954 film Roman Holiday, starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.

Today, Alfredo sauce is a popular pasta sauce in both restaurants and home kitchens. It is typically served with fettuccine noodles, but can also be used as a sauce for chicken, fish, or vegetables.
