Jerky

Jerky is a type of dried meat that has been around for centuries. The word “jerky” comes from the Spanish word for dried, salted meat, which is charqui. Jerky was originally made by the native people of the Americas, who dried meat in the sun or smoked it over a fire. The first written record of jerky was by the Spanish explorer, Cabeza de Vaca, who wrote about the native people of the American Southwest eating dried meat.

The native people of North America were not the only ones to make jerky. In Africa, there is a type of jerky made from ostrich meat. In Asia, there is a type of jerky made from yak meat. Jerky has also been made from fish, such as salmon.

Jerky became popular in the United States in the 1800s, when it was introduced by Spanish and Mexican immigrants. At first, it was made only from beef, but soon other meats, such as pork, chicken, and venison, were being used. Today, there are many different recipes for jerky, with different seasonings and spices. Jerky can be made in a dehydrator or in an oven.
