Most people think of meatloaf as a dish that consists of ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, eggs, and ketchup or tomato sauce. However, the history of meatloaf recipes is a bit more complex than that.

Meatloaf can be traced back to ancient Rome, where a dish called Isicia Omentata was popular. This dish consisted of ground meat (usually pork, but sometimes beef) mixed with spices and formed into a loaf. It was then baked or grilled and served with a sauce made from vinegar, honey, and spices.

The dish made its way to England in the Middle Ages, where it was known as “mincemeat”. At this time, the dish was made with chopped beef or pork, as well as bread crumbs and spices. It was often served with a sweet and sour sauce.
