Mi sandwich
A sandwich is a food typically consisting of vegetables, cheese, and often meat, placed between slices of bread, or more generally any dish wherein bread serves as a container or wrapper for another food type. The sandwich began as a portable finger food in the Western world, though over time it has become prevalent worldwide. Due to the widespread availability of bread, fillings, and condiments, sandwiches are easy to prepare and are very versatile.
The earliest known sandwiches were made by the ancient Egyptians, who used them as portable food for workers. The bread was usually unleavened and was softer than the modern day bread. The fillings were typically vegetables, cheese, and sometimes meat.
The first recorded sandwich in the English language was made by the Earl of Sandwich in 1762. The Earl was a heavy gambler and is said to have asked for a piece of meat to be placed between two slices of bread so that he could eat while he continued to gamble. This sandwich became so popular that it was soon imitated by others and the sandwich was born.
