Paratha

Paratha is a flatbread that originates from the Indian subcontinent. It is made by pan-frying a dough made from whole wheat flour, ghee (clarified butter), and water. The dough is then rolled out into a thin, flatbread and cooked until golden brown.

Paratha has a long history, dating back to ancient India. The word “paratha” is derived from the Sanskrit word “parat”, meaning “layer”. The first recorded mention of paratha dates back to the 4th century CE, when it was mentioned in the epic poem, the Ramayana.

Paratha was traditionally eaten for breakfast or as a snack. It is often served with yogurt or chutney. In North India, paratha is often stuffed with potato, onion, spinach, or paneer (a type of Indian cottage cheese).
