Reuben sandwich
A Reuben sandwich is a hot sandwich composed of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing, grilled between slices of rye bread. The sandwich was invented by Reuben Kulakofsky, a Lithuanian-born Jewish grocer in Omaha, Nebraska.
The earliest known reference to the Reuben sandwich is from 1936, when Kulakofsky was recorded as putting the sandwich on his grocery's menu. The sandwich gained national attention in 1957, when it was featured in the New York Post.
Since then, the sandwich has been widely adopted by delis and restaurants across the United States. It has also been adapted to many different variations, such as the "Reuben dog" (a hot dog wrapped in corned beef and topped with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing) and the "Reuben burger" (a hamburger topped with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing).
