Rose
Roses have been used in recipes since ancient times. The ancient Romans used roses in their dishes, and the famous Roman chef Apicius included a recipe for rose sauce in his cookbook. Roses were also used in medieval times, both in sweet and savory dishes. In the 14th century, a cookbook called Libre de Sent Sovi included a recipe for a rose- flavored custard.
Roses continued to be used in recipes throughout the centuries. In the 18th century, a popular rose-flavored syrup was made with roses and sugar. This syrup was used to flavor cakes, cookies, and other desserts. In the 19th century, Queen Victoria’s chef included a recipe for rose petal jam in his cookbook.
Today, roses are still used in recipes, although not as commonly as in the past. Rosewater is a popular ingredient in Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine. It is used to flavor desserts, rice dishes, and even cocktails. Rose petals can be used to decorate cakes or to make rose-flavored ice cream.
