Torte

Tortes became popular in Austria and Germany in the 18th and 19th centuries. In Austria, the most famous torte is the Sachertorte, a chocolate cake that was invented by Franz Sacher in 1832. The original Sachertorte recipe is a closely guarded secret, but there are many variations of this cake that can be found in cookbooks.
